Pixies, Bobs, and Braids

The hair talk continues this week on F-EMME, with a discussion about the hair on your head. Whether you cut it short, keep it long, dye it, or braid it, your hairstyle can say a lot about you. And you can say a lot with your hair. In this episode, we discuss important hair movements, like the 20’s bob, the pressure of styling your hair a certain way, and the affects of drastically changing your hair.

Show Me the Money

Did you know men on average have about an hour more free time each day than women?!

In this episode of F-EMME we're discussing "women-coded" work; work that is often underpaid or unpaid, and done mainly by women. Such work includes child care, elderly care, housekeeping, cooking, etc. We get into why some work is women-dominated, why fathers may view caring for children differently than mothers, and our own experiences with unequal distribution of household work. We also share some surprising statistics about the number of women in leadership roles in different fields.

This issue is multi-faceted and difficult to sort through. But it's a topic we feel is important to critically examine. Please share your thoughts with us by emailing us at femme@k103.se.

Tune in tonight at 9pm or listen anytime on Mixcloud.

Get Out of My Hair

In this episode of F-EMME, we're talking all things female body hair; the history of removing it, why society has such a problem with it, and the criticism women get when they display it. We also share a few personal body hair stories and discuss famous women who have bared their "pit-staches". Love it or hate it, this is a surprisingly controversial topic.

And it all started with an ad in Harper's Bazaar in 1915...https://outskirtsofthetwenties.wordpress.com/2014/01/05/it-started-with-harpers-bazaar/

Meet Felicia

Often, being "different" means you stand out; you don't fit in. That can make life difficult when all you really want is to be treated like everyone else.

This week, the wonderful Felicia Pihlström joins us to talk about growing up in Sweden as a half Thai-half Swedish woman. We discuss her childhood in a small Swedish town, how she was bullied because of her looks, and what it's like to always "wear the struggle".

You can listen to this episode tonight at 9pm or on Mixcloud anytime, https://www.mixcloud.com/K103/f-emme-23-01-18-meet-felicia/.

Join us next week for a discussion of female body hair.

Angela Merkel vs. Beyonce

We're all about those strong feminist role models, and this week we're talking about the women we idolize, respect, or look to for inspiration and support. We discuss some of the most influential (and controversial) women in world and, maybe more importantly, our own mothers. We also share some music from a great feminist role model band, Röda Bönor.

If you'd like the read the article we bring up in this episode from Marie Claire, titled "Angela Merkel is Not Your Feminist Icon" you can find it at http://www.marieclaire.com/politics/a29532/angela-merkel-feminism/.

We played "Det ska bli slut på rumban" and "Sången om sexualmyterna" by Röda Bönor in this episode. To hear more from them, check out their Spotify account here, https://open.spotify.com/artist/38Dkdgms2HWirOGTIsvyCq?utm_medium=facebo....

Catch a rerun of this episode on Sunday at 14. And be sure to tune in next Tuesday at 21 for a new episode about femininity! As always, send us your thoughts and opinions at femme@k103.se.
