Concert tip for tonight: Veronica Falls

Yes, this comes a bit late, it's only for super spontaneous people who by chance come across this now. Tonight, Veronica Falls are playing at Henriksberg. At 21:00, tickets cost 200kr.

Cool band, I think, well worth it. In the beginning I thought they sounded a bit too dark and spooky for my taste. But they simply do have some cool songs, gotta love the harmonies.

So, check out the videos below and think about it!

P.S. Dark and spooky, yes, but the last clip proves that they can laugh and do exist in sunlight.

11 Graham Coxon - What'll It Take
12 The Black Keys - Gold On The Ceiling
13 The Beach Boys - Hang On To Your Ego

So, The Cribs are back. As a trio again, Johnny Marr has left. And I gotta say I love how raw they sound again. The new single 'Come On Be A No-One" is out April 16, the album "In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull" will be released on May 7. And album track 'Chi-Town' you can get for free already. The songs might need a bit, but I think they're really infectious.

I still couldn't figure out what "eg vetsje" means, google translate doesn't give it away. Anyway, it's a good song, too bad there's no video for it.

Speaking of videos, check out the video for The Creation below. It's the band playing live on German TV in 1966. Quite cool. And it shows guitarist Eddie Phillips using a violin bow on the guitar. As far as I know, he was the first to do so, before Jimmy Page.

Anyway, enough now, check the songs and download them if you like them. For San Cisco, the downloads aren't really high quality, I should mention though. Why not buy the songs in high quality and support the band? They surely deserve it!

15 Free Downloads!

If you missed last weeks's show, listen today and download every song you like while listening. Black Lips, Digitalism, Smith Westerns and lots more, all for free!

Azealia Banks

Yes, and now for something completely different. Something I might not play on the show. Anyway, I already mentioned her in my 2011 list. Azealia Banks.

I really liked '212' from start. Not your average Rap. She has moved from New York to London and she's into Interpol, Bloc Party, The Futureheads and so. She's been touring in the UK with Two Door Cinema Club, Tribes and Metronomy on the NME Awards Tour.

Oh yeah, and she has even recorded a cover of the Interpol song 'Slow Hands'. Check the video below. Doesn't give me much (not even a big fan of the original version, guess that's why), but I think it's cool that she's crossing genres. Plus she has worked with producer Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Futureheads, Maxïmo Park, Long Blondes, Adele, among other). Really not your average Rap artist.

And well, it seems that for some strange reason you can still download '212' for free.

If you don't know the song, check the video. Give it a try. And make sure to listen till the end. I think it's addictive.

Playlist March 9 plus 15 free downloads!

So here's the playlist plus links to legal free downloads for all the songs. Some you can just download with right click and save target, for some you have to enter your email address, and for some you have to like the band on facebook to be able to download the song - you'll figure!

Check out the videos below if you wanna check the songs again before!

1 Black Lips - New Direction (download here)
2 The Thermals - Now We Can See (download here)
3 Jake Bugg - Trouble Town (download here)
4 Shout Out Louds - Walls (download here)
5 Beat! Beat! Beat! - Fireworks (download here)
6 BOY - This Is The Beginning (download here)
7 Gary - Love Is Love (download here)
8 The Phenomenal Handclap Band - 15 to 20 (download here)
9 El Rego et ses Commandos - Hessa (download here)
10 Les Savy Fav - Let's Get Out Of Here (download here)

12 Paper Lions - Travelling (download here)
13 Digitalism - 2 Hearts (download here)
14 The Drums - Money (download here)
15 Smith Westerns - Weekend (download here)

P.S. The version of 'Fireworks' by Cologne band Beat!Beat!Beat! isn't the one you can listen to below. It's the version they released on an EP before releasing their album 'Lightmares'. If you want the album version - which I think is the better one - I'm afraid you'll have to pay for it. Do it, the band deserves it!

Playlist March 2 plus free download

Okay, so I called it "Friday Afternoon R&B Shakedown". Not really justified, after all. My plan was something like 80% early 60s R&B plus Nick Waterhouse plus El Rego plus a tiny bit of indie and ska. Turned out differently.

Do you know the feeling of going to a club and getting bored with the DJ because it's all just going in one direction? Just Indie. Just Soul. Just Electro. I think it's boring. I remember going to a Reggae club night once. Had to leave after 20mins. Is it really possible to listen to Reggae for a few hours in a row? I mean, without smoking anything?

I guess I feel the same way about a 60min radio show. Some variation is needed. I might not be able to just play Soul for one hour.

Anyway, here's the playlist for today's show, no real "R&B Shakedown":

1 Hanni El Khatib - Loved One
2 Nic Armstrong - I Can't Stand It
3 El Rego Et Ses Commandos - Hessa (check this page for getting the song as a free download!)
4 Just Brothers - Sliced Tomatoes
5 Fabulous Denos - Bad Girl
6 Nick Waterhouse - Is That Clear
7 Nick Waterhouse - I Can Only Give You Everything
8 Nathaniel Mayer & The Fabulous Twilights - Village Of Love
9 Owen Gray - You Don't Know Like I Know
10 Fabienne Delsol - Loot
11 The Go! Team - Ready To Go Steady
12 Bing Ji Ling - A Little Love
13 Dexy's Midnight Runners - Burn It Down
14 Jackie Edwards - Somebody Help Me
15 Babyshambles - I Wish
16 Laurel Aitken - Hey Bartender
17 Them - Gloria

Friday Afternoon R&B Shakedown

One hour of 60's and new R&B and Soul, plus Ska, Indie and cool African stuff. Inlcuding a tip for a free download of an awesome 60's soul track from Benin!

Your essential dose of Indie, Britpop, Mod, Northern Soul & Garage Rock, every Friday. Cool stuff from the 60s to now: unsigned bands, rare tracks and acoustic versions, but also big artists and big hits. The rockinest way to start the weekend!
