Mood Radio

On this show, your host Belén will make a humble attempt at curating a soundtrack for each and every scenario you've ever lived through or imagined in your head. Because, in this host’s opinion, no moment/feeling in life is complete without some music in the background. So if you’re a bit tired of the algorithm always suggesting the same three songs when you “Go to song radio”, but you still feel like you need someone to tell you what to listen to, feel welcomed to mood radio! This show is born from a necessity of finally sitting down and making the playlists I always promise myself I will make and never do in the end cause commitment always sounds good in theory until you realise it actually requires loads of work. Increasing the commitment and making the whole playlist-making endeavour an actual radio programme, implying triple amounts of work dedication and possibly suffering is what finally convinced me. There is a side quest embedded in this programme as well. It’s a little project that aims at documenting the music that shaped the members of K103 and thus our radio’s identity. So, some of mood radio’s episodes will be interviews of current and former members of Gothenburg’s student radio in which they will be asked about their Desert Island Discs: each guest will pick which eight records they would take to a desert island to listen to for the rest of their days and discuss why these particular tunes are important to them. The concept is like the one made famous by the BBC brought down to non famous people, basically.

flight mode

The pilot episode just HAD to be about songs to listen to when on flight mode. If you’re anything like me, I always get a little bit stressed about what I’m gonna listen to whilst on a plane. I find altitudes can really impact my mood and I worry I didn’t download the right pod or the right album to listen to. So, during my years flying back and forth I have found a few albums along the way that always seem to get me going and make me feel protected and safe. These are mainly old albums from classic/cult bands with a big catalogue, cause I like to use the unplugged time on a plane to catch up on artists I never seem to have time for as an overstimulated inhabitant of the modern world. No internet at all is the one way I make sure to listen to a whole album from start to finish without getting distracted. So, in a way, I hope planes don’t get free WiFi any time soon so I can continue with this ritual. I’ve also tried to stick to albums that have a dreamy quality for me. There's something about being suspended in the clouds that really intensifies my daydreaming and I need a soundtrack that supports it.
